The eastern boundary originates with the establishment of the former Metropolitan Branch of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1873, creating the physical barrier which today separates Edgewood from Brookland to the east. In Edgewood there are a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. Many young professionals live in Edgewood and residents tend to lean conservative. The public schools in Edgewood are above average. It is very quiet, with wildlife everywhere you look and always a secret little nook you can find on a creek in a park or your own back yard. Edgewood is not far from the ocean and even closer to the mountains making a day trip easy to do if you like to ski or play in the sand.
