Home to Dorchester Heights and other hills where George Washington's army set up cannon to force the British out of Boston in 1776, this urban neighborhood has a strong sense of history and tradition. Affectionately nicknamed "Southie," this neighborhood has recently seen an influx of young professionals and families over the years along with new housing stock.
Amidst this housing boom, Southie has retained much of its charm and character with quaint, rowhouse lined streets that are only minutes by walk from the waterfront.
Southie also has excellent access to major highways, the airport, and the ocean which makes it a unique and convenient location. Among the tried and true classic restaurants and bars, you'll find some newcomers sprinkled into the mix giving Southie a refreshed, yet classic feel. There truly is something for everyone in this neighborhood.
St. Patrick's Day Pride
Southie is home to one of the largest St. Patrick's Dy parades in the country which has been running since 1901. The parade runs from West Broadway to East Broadway and finishes at Farragut Road. Each year, it draws in tens of thousands of participants to join in on celebrating Boston's rich Irish-American history.
